Abstract

The possibily of controlling near-field radiative heat transfer via thin films supporting surface phonon-polaritons (SPhPs) is explored. Local density of electromagnetic states (LDOS) within the nanometric gap formed between two silicon carbide (SiC) films and the radiative heat flux exchanged between the thin layers are calculated. Using this information, engineering of desired heat transfer profiles can be obtained, which can be used for the next generation energy harvesting devices.
